This week, Billabong announces its debut of the Andy Warhol Collection line, titled “Warhol Surf.” The collaboration was inspired by Warhol’s love of surf, and is presented by Billabong LAB- a division of the company that supports musicians, designers, surf legends, and others involved in the arts. The collection features a range of surfing inspired swimwear, apparel, and accessories that reflect the image of Warhol’s artwork.
Not many know Andy Warhol’s obsession and fascination with surfing. Billabong now showcases that fascination with product innovation and trendy patterns. Warhol once said ” I came out of the womb on a surfboard.” Aside from his fascination with surfing, Warhol once spent two weeks in California filming an underground surf film titled “San Diego Surf.” Think, “Lords of Dogtown,” but surf style.
“Andy’s dedication to progressing art and his love for the surf culture became a powerful connection to our brand and inspired us to create this collection,” says Billabong’s Global Brand President, Shannan North. “To see Warhol’s iconic art come to life on our silhouettes is an important and celebrated moment in our brand history.”
Warhol Surf is available world wide at speciality retailers and online at http://www.billabong.com.
